Following last year's outstanding  1913 Storm Presentation we announce this chance to learn even more about our Thumb area Maritime History.

So grab your life vests, On October 18th we honor the 100th Anniversary of the U. S. Life Saving Service / Coast Guard in Michigan's Thumb.   Get ready for another fascinating presentation. We will again have Robert McGreevy as our Keynote Speaker. In his own captivating way, Robert will tell the story of the fearless men who worked tirelessly to rescue people from the ferocity of our Lakes. 

The program will begin with a short presentation on the Pointe aux Barques Lighthouse by Curators, Bill Bonner and Carolyn Curtis.  

After Mr. McGreevy's presentation, we will introduce the new owner of the Port Sanilac Light House Mr. Jeff Schook who will speak about his families maritime heritage and his vision for the future of the Light House. 

There will be displays and some items for sale by the Pointe aux Barques Lighthouse, Mr. McGreevy, Mr. Schook, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Sanilac County Historical Society

This is a fundraising event for the Sanilac County Historical Society.

Victoria's Secret Perhaps? Fashions of the Civil War Presentation

Where can you find the answer to Victoria's Secret?  What is a reticule?  What made a bustle, bustle.   What did they wear underneath that.....hair.

The answers to these and many other quaint questions will be addressed in a presentation at the Museum Church on Sunday June 28^th at 3:00 PM.

Glenna Jo Christen will bring her collection of antique clothing to illustrate her stories of their scarlet past. Glenna ties together Victorian history with its apparel like the ribbons on a Civil War bonnet. 

Over a period of some years, her presentations have given insight into Victorian life to many audiences in the Detroit area.  She will showcase some of the fabulous garments discovered in the dusty corners of the Society’s Mansion's third floor. And they are fabulous!

 The Museum is fortunate to possess this collection of antique garments, and we are thrilled to have Glenna give us details about their past. 

Perhaps we might have the honor of a visit from Dr. and Mrs. Loop. Answers to bustles and reticules are certain to be revealed, but a visit from the Loops? Let's just say, it's a Victorian secret.

Arts and Crafts Show - Two Days, July 25th & 26th

Our Annual Arts & Craft Show. Visit and see Arts & Crafts from individual vendors.  Purchase your next original treasure for your home and office.  The Museum General Store, with new and expanded inventory, will be open along with a food tent.

Wine, Dine & Unwind, Sunday, July 26

July 26, 2015 Sunday 5:00 PM- 10:00 PM in the Tent on the Museum Grounds

Wine, Dine & Unwind, our third GREAT wine tasting and dinner.  Featuring, Devin Scillian, Detroit’s Channel 4 News Anchor, Master of Ceremony,- Gourmet food provided by Faulkner Catering of Port Huron. The Jill Jack Band with Devin Scillian will entertain us.  Jill Jack is an American singer-songwriter based right here in Michigan. One of her many CD’s won the 2006 Detroit Music Awards.

There will be a silent and live auction with some very interesting items.  (if you would like to donate something for the auction please call the Museum).

$80 per person ($75 for Society members)

The Event in the Tent!

No, Muhamad Ali isn't coming out of retirement, but this event should also pack a strong punch. On Saturday, July 25th, we will be treated to a performance by the Cadillac Phoenix Blues Band.

The special time for this concert is 5:00 PM, and the special location will be outdoors, under the big white tent we have set up for the museum's wine tasting fundraiser on Sunday.

I hope you will attend and when you do, be sure to thank the members of  Cadillac Phoenix, because they donate their performance to us as a fundraiser.  All proceeds will go to help maintain and preserve our museum and historic village.


Please note that the concert will end before the start of The Barn Theatre performance that evening, so if you want to double-dip, here's your chance!
